Road safety campaign launched

KARGIL, Aug 25: Several delegations from Kargil met Lieutenant Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) at Raj Niwas, here today.
Deputy Commissioner/CEO LAHDC Kargil, Shrikant Suse and Additional Superintendent of Police Kargil, Mujeeb-ur-Rehman, attended the meeting.
A statement said that a delegation led by Chairman/CEC LAHDC Kargil, Dr Mohammad Jaffer Akhoon, and Lambardar Parkachik raised concerns about disputed Kahcharai land between Parkachik and Rangdum villages.
The Lieutenant Governor urged the villagers to resolve the issue amicably for mutual benefit.
Mohammad Hassanain, President of All Ladakh Students Welfare Association Jammu (ALSWAJ), also met the Lieutenant Governor, submitting a memorandum requesting prioritization of permanent recruitment over outsourcing, addressing admission issues for paramedical students, and resolving delays in scholarship disbursements.
The Lieutenant Governor assured that recruitment is being conducted regularly and urged the CEC Kargil to address issues within LAHDC’s jurisdiction.
Hamza Ali, a resident of Dangal, Kargil, discussed the incomplete Gargardo-Dangal link and irrigation water shortages.
The Lieutenant Governor directed the Deputy Commissioner to examine these concerns.
A delegation from the Fire and Emergency Services Department highlighted that 31 employees recruited since 2020 have not received basic training, affecting their promotions and increments.
The Lieutenant Governor instructed the concerned officer to resolve this promptly.
Later, the Lieutenant Governor launched the “I Drive Safe” Road Safety awareness campaign, organized by Traffic Police Ladakh at Auditorium Hall, Kargil.
He emphasized the dangers of rash driving and urged adherence to traffic rules.
Expressing grief over the recent road accident in Durbuk, Leh, where seven people died and 21 were injured, the Lieutenant Governor prayed for the departed souls.
CEC Kargil Dr Mohammad Jaffer Akhoon also urged caution on the roads and extended sympathies to the affected families.
The event featured the National Anthem and a two-minute silence in memory of the Durbuk accident victims.
Key officials, including SSP Kargil Shree Ram R and SSP Traffic Ladakh Ishtiyaq A Kacho, were present, along with transport union leaders, students, and the public.
