Azad’s tenure witnessed massive development in J&K: Tara Chand

KATHUA, Apr 12: Accusing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of vitiating peace in Jammu and Kashmir by unveiling its communal agenda in recently released party manifesto, senior Congress leader and Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand today said that BJP was trying to divide the society on communal lines to get political advantage in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing series of public meetings at different villages in Hiranagar, Kathua, Handey Chak, Chan Lal Din Chobey, Chak Kore Punnu and Marheen, Tara Chand sought votes for former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is Congress’s Lok Sabha candidate from Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary constituency. He said that Jammu and Kashmir witnessed maximum development during the time when Azad was Chief Minister. The kind of infrastructure that was developed here benefitted people in a big way, he added.
The areas that had tourism potential but were neglected in years were given face lift and brought on the tourism map of the country, he said, adding all three regions of the state witnessed equitable development during Azad’s tenure which people still long for and hope to see that era returned. People, he said want development and therefore they are opting for more progressive Congress Party which has a history of development, peace and progress.
Tara Chand urged people to realise the gravity of situation and vote accordingly. He said that it was because of consistent efforts of Congress and National Conference (NC) that peace process that was derailed was brought back on rails and created conducive atmosphere for ensuring massive development for which Central Government also funded liberally.
Various central schemes were implemented in the state which helped villages get connected through better road network and cities developed on modern lines. He said that biggest achievement of the Coalition Government was to create over six hundred new administrative units in Jammu and Kashmir which will make people have easy access to the Government at their doorsteps.
He said that acts like Right To Information (RTI), Public Service Guarantee Act (PSGA) and setting up of State Accountability Commission (SAC), State Information Commission (SIC), State Vigilance Commission (SVC) were all aimed at giving people a free access to the information and making the state administration accountable.
