JDA employees leaders arrested for protesting transfers

JAMMU, Apr 12:  Police today arrested president of Jammu Development Authority (JDA) Employees Union when he was protesting against transfers and postings in alleged violation of Model Code of Conduct in view of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
The Union president Ashok Singh, along with some other employees was protesting and shouting slogans in the JDA premises when Policemen from Trikuta Nagar Police Station whisked him away on the charge of obstructing official work. He was, however, released on bail in the evening.
The trouble erupted this morning when a group of JDA employees, led by their president Ashok Singh held a protest demonstration in the premises of Vikas Bhawan near Bahu Plaza. They were protesting against transfers and postings of some JDA employees in alleged violation of Model Code of Conduct in view of Lok Sabha elections.
As per the order, issued by Vice-Chairperson JDA on April 5, seven officials were transferred and posted in the Khilafwarzi Wing on probationary basis. The protesting employees were demanding immediate withdrawal of the controversial order.
When contacted, JDA Vice-Chairperson, Sushma Chouhan told the Excelsior that the transfer and posting of the employees was an internal arrangement for strengthening Khilafwarzi Wing of the JDA keeping in view various Court orders in this regard.
Meanwhile, according to the employees leader Ashok Singh, they have also approached the Election Commission and filed a written complaint in connection with the transfers and postings in alleged violation of Model Code of Conduct.
