Dogri Sanstha organizes ‘Gazal-Sandhya’

JAMMU, Apr 12: Dogri Sanstha organized “Gazal-Sandhya” based on the poetry of young and talented poet Surjit Singh Hosh Badsali.
This was one programme in the series in which Dogri Sanstha has been showcasing the poetry of an individual writer in each program through musical rendering. As in the past, Sham Sajan, veteran and well known composer had composed music of gazals of Surjit Hosh. Those who had lent their voices to the gazals include Sham Sajan, Shyam Kumar Manyal, Neelam Langeh, Gursharan Kour and Mukti Oberoi.
Sanjay Paashi and Karan Malhotra provided the accompaniment to the vocalists on mandolin and tabla respectively.
Saujanya Sharma, Director Tourism, who presided over the function, said that it is heartening to note that the new crop of poets in Dogri is so talented and their poetry is touching new heights. Equally satisfying is the fact that highly motivated and versatile veteran musicians like Sham Sajan have dedicated their lives to highlight the Dogri poetry through their musical compositions. He further said that talent of the singers and accompanying instrumentalists is amazing and is a boon for this region.
Prakash Premi, a veteran Dogri writer from Udhampur, was the special guest on the occasion.
The author of the gazals Surjit Hosh also read a couple of gazals in the programme.
Earlier, Prof Lalit Magotra, president of Dogri Sanstha, presented the welcome address.
The programme was conducted by Ravinder Kaul in his inimitable style, whereas Prof Veena, general secretary of Dogri Sanstha presented vote of thanks.
