JAMMU, Aug 29: Taranjit Singh Tony, senior political leader and DDC Suchetgarh, today expressed concern over the transfers of police officers by the J&K Administration.
Tony alleged that these transfers, which have occurred following the notification of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), are being manipulated to influence the upcoming elections and create unnecessary difficulties for the opposition.
Addressing a public meeting here today, he criticized the state administration for succumbing to the pressures of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing them of facilitating these transfers to favor their political agenda.
“The integrity of the electoral process is being jeopardized by these moves and that the administration is merely echoing the BJP’s directives without due regard for impartiality and fairness,” he said and added that BJP’s attempts to place their preferred candidates in strategic positions are undermining the democratic process and threatening the principles of free and fair elections.
He urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to take immediate action to address these concerns by halting all recent transfers and cancelling those already implemented.
Tony warned the BJP to desist from such practices, asserting that the people of Jammu & Kashmir are keenly aware of these tactics.
“The public will deliver a fitting response to the BJP’s attempts to manipulate the electoral process in the upcoming Assembly polls, emphasizing that the electorate will judge the BJP’s actions and hold them accountable,” he maintained.
