Veeri’s wealth drops 5 times in 10 yrs

SRINAGAR, Aug 29: Among the prominent candidates who have recently filed their nominations in South Kashmir for Phase-I, J&K Apni Party’s (JKAP) Rafi Ahmad Mir is the richest, with a net worth of Rs 32 crore and an annual income of Rs 19 lakh, eclipsing Congress leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir, who has declared a net worth of nearly Rs 16 crore.
The poorest, and those reporting a decline in their wealth, are from the BJP and NC. Sofi Yusuf, who has declared assets worth over Rs 1 crore with a liability of Rs 40 lakh, and Dr Bashir Ahmad Shah (Veeri), whose wealth has dropped to Rs 2 crore from Rs 9.88 crore in 2014.

According to the details submitted by Rafi Ahmad Mir, he has movable assets worth Rs 2.27 crore and immovable assets worth Rs 30 crore, totalling Rs 32.27 crore. In 2014, his assets were worth Rs 21 crore with a liability of Rs 13 lakh.
Mir, who holds a Fazil Deeniyat degree from Jamia Deoband, has declared his sources of income as hotel, orchards and pension. He also possesses 3,000 J&K Bank shares, up from 300 in 2014. He has stated that inherited immovable assets are valued at Rs 29.52 crore, while self-acquired assets are worth Rs 50 lakh. According to the affidavit, his wife has movable assets amounting to Rs 33 lakh.
Congress leader Peerzada Muhammad Sayed, contesting from Dooru, has assets totalling over Rs 4.80 crore, up from just Rs 1 crore in 2014. He owns movable assets worth over Rs 12 lakh and immovable assets worth over Rs 4.70 crore.
His wife, who is a doctor, owns movable assets worth Rs 47 lakh and immovable property worth Rs 5 lakh.
Thirty-eight-year-old Aijaz Ahmad Mir, formerly associated with the PDP and now contesting as an Independent, has declared assets worth over Rs 5 crore, up from Rs 3.75 crore in 2014.
These assets include Rs 11 lakh worth of movable property and Rs 5 crore worth of immovable property. While over Rs 4 crore worth of assets are inherited, Mir, who holds a degree in law, also has a liability of Rs 5 lakh, up from Rs 3 lakh in 2014.
Mohammad Amin Bhat of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) has declared assets worth Rs 2 crore, up from Rs 1.67 crore in 2014.
These assets include Rs 16 lakh worth of movable property-the same amount shared by his wife-and Rs 1.90 crore worth of immovable property. Bhat, who has a Class 12 qualification, also has a liability of Rs 18 lakh, up from Rs 9 lakh in 2014.
PDP leader Abdul Rehman Bhat (Veeri) has recorded an increase in his net worth. Bhat had assets amounting to Rs 1.97 crore in 2014; however, after nearly 10 years, these assets have risen to Rs 2.15 crore.
Bhat, who has done his B.A. from Kashmir University in 1976, has declared liabilities worth over Rs 1 lakh, down from Rs 5 lakh in 2014 when he was contesting the Assembly elections.
BJP’s Sofi Yusuf, who does not have any educational qualifications and is contesting the Assembly elections for the first time, has declared total assets of over Rs 1 crore, which includes Rs 95 lakh worth of immovable property and Rs 13 lakh worth of movable property.
Sixty-two-year-old Mansoor Hussain Soharwardi, contesting as an Independent from the Anantnag constituency and listed with criminal antecedents as per his affidavit, has declared assets worth Rs 1.70 crore, including Rs 30 lakh worth of movable assets and Rs 1.40 crore worth of immovable assets.
Senior National Conference leader Mohammad Khalil Band, contesting from Pulwama, has declared assets worth over Rs 2 crore, up from Rs 1.97 crore in 2014.
He has declared movable assets worth Rs 3 lakh, while his wife possesses movable assets worth over Rs 8 lakh, and immovable assets worth Rs 2 crore. Band, who is 1967-batch matriculate, had declared liabilities worth Rs 14 lakh in 2014, which have now decreased to Rs 8 lakh in 2024.
Dr. Bashir Ahmad Shah (Veeri), a doctor contesting from Srigufwara-Bijbehara on NC’s ticket, has recorded a decrease in his wealth, according to his affidavit.
He had assets worth Rs 9.88 crore in 2014, but this has decreased to nearly Rs 2 crore in 2024, including Rs 25 lakh worth of movable property and Rs 1.73 crore worth of immovable property.
His wife, also a doctor, holds movable assets worth Rs 49 lakh and immovable property worth Rs 15 lakh. He also has a liability of Rs 41 lakh, up from Rs 7.5 lakh in 2014. He has reported an annual income of Rs 7.20 lakh.
Zahoor Ahmad Mir, whose educational qualification is Class 12 and is contesting on a PDP ticket from Pampore, has declared assets worth nearly Rs 1.80 crore, including Rs 9 lakh in movable assets and Rs 1.70 crore in immovable property. He had declared assets worth Rs 1.25 crore in 2014.
His spouse, declared as a housewife in the affidavit, holds movable assets worth Rs 16 lakh and immovable property worth Rs 50 lakh.
