CBI raids houses of 4 Postal officials

JAMMU, Aug 29: The Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) today conducted simultaneous raids at the residential premises of four Postal officials in Jammu on the allegations of fraud to the tune of Rs 23.36 lakh.
The officials whose premises were searched include Sadaf Gulzar, Postal Assistant (the then Assistant Post Master SB), Surinder Singh, Gurmeet Singh and Karun Sharma, all Postal Assistants at Gandhi Nagar Head Post Office.

An official statement said the Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a case yesterday against four accused including a then Postal Assistant (Assistant Post Master SB) and three more then Postal Assistants, all posted at Gandhi Nagar Head Post Office, Jammu and unknown persons on allegations of fraudulent closure and withdrawal of funds from PPF Account at Gandhi Nagar Head Post Office Jammu.
The case was registered on the basis of complaint received from Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Jammu Division.
It was also alleged that the account was closed on 29.05.2024 and the closure proceeds amounting to Rs.23,36,130 were credited in a joint account opened fraudulently. The complaint, prima facie, revealed role of accused Postal officials.
The CBI conducted searches today at the residential premises of accused at four locations in Jammu and recovered some documents.
