JAMMU, Aug 29: An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists late last night in the border district of Rajouri after troops launched a cordon and search operation in response to suspected movement.
“A search operation was launched by security forces in the general area of village Kheri Mohra Lathi and Danthal in Rajouri district at 9.30 pm last night after movement of the terrorists was observed,’’ the officials said.

During the search operation, at around 11.45 pm, a contact was established with terrorists, leading to an exchange of fire between near Kheri Mohra area, Security forces also fired few shots of tracer rounds to illuminate the area. Click here to watch video
Two to three terrorists were holed up in the cordon area, they said, adding that additional forces were rushed to the area to strengthen the cordon and the operation. However, there was no fresh contact between security forces and the terrorists during the day today and it is believed that the terrorists might have managed to escape overnight taking cover of darkness.
On Monday night, a group of Village Defence Guards (VDGs) noticed two unidentified persons near a house in Meira-Nagrota village at Rajouri district, and fired into the air. Following this, a search operation was initiated by security forces in the area.
