American Oncology Institute achieves breakthrough in liver cancer surgery

JAMMU, Aug 30: The American Oncology Institute (AOI) at ASCOMS Jammu has marked a significant milestone in cancer care with the successful completion of a complex liver surgery, known as a bi-segmentectomy, on a 56-year-old patient diagnosed with liver cancer. This advanced surgical procedure, which requires a high level of expertise and state-of-the-art equipment, represents a major advancement in cancer treatment in the region.
The surgery was conducted by AOI Jammu’s distinguished surgical oncology team, led by Dr Avinash Rajra and Dr Sujeet Bhat, with crucial support from the anesthesia team, including Dr Atul Sharma and Dr Khuram Malik. The bi-segmentectomy involved the meticulous removal of the tumor along with a margin of healthy liver tissue, ensuring a thorough and effective surgical intervention.

The patient’s post-operative recovery was smooth, with no complications reported. He was discharged on the fifth day following the surgery and is currently recovering well at home.
