One killed in cloudburst triggered flash floods

RAMBAN, Sept 2: A cloudburst in the upper reaches of Banihal triggered flash floods in which a helper working with L&T machine was killed after he was washed away in a rivulet this evening.
Sources said that the worker was washed away in the rivulet passing through Banihal and Bankoot Gujjarnar areas after he was trapped there.
On getting information, local volunteers and cops reached the spot and retrieved the helper from the swollen stream near Sports Stadium Banihal and shifted him to Sub District Hospital Banihal where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The deceased was identified as Zahir Ahmed, 28, son of Abdul Qayoom, resident of Manjoos, Tehsil Khari.
The flash floods also damaged an under construction road at Bankoot-Gujjarnar while the actual loss in the calamity was yet to be ascertained.
District administration Ramban led by Deputy Commissioner, Basher Ul Haq Chowdary had already alerted the public about the calamity.
Rescue teams of Banihal Sub Division, local youths and civil QRT were on spot and the authorities have warned the general public not to roam around the rills and rivulets.
