JAMMU, Sept 3: Congress working president for district Jammu Rural, Badri Nath Sharma today stressed for Congress mandate for a PoJK refugee/ DPs leader from R S Pura constituency.
Talking to media-persons here today, Sharma made an earnest appeal to the Congress high command to give party mandate to PoJK refugee leader only from RS Pura- Jammu South Assembly constituency. He said if the Congress Party gives mandate to a candidate other than PoJK refugee, it will be a huge setback for the party as PoJK refugees want Congress to give mandate to a refugee leader who have a decisive vote share in this constituency.
Sharma highlighted that the RS Pura Assembly constituency had been reserved for over 26 years, however, with the recent delimitation; the seat has now been opened to the general category, where PoJK population is more than 42% and they have first right to be represented by a PoJK refugee in J&K Legislative Assembly.
He pointed out that PoJK refugee community forms a substantial part of the RS Pura-Jammu South demography, with Assembly elections being held after a decade-long hiatus in Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized the need for Congress party to give mandate to refugee only from RS Pura Jammu South constituency, who have remained politically disenfranchised for far too long. He maintained that whatever decision Congress high command takes in RS Pura Jammu South constituency will be respected but claimed that if a candidate from any other constituency is forced into this constituency, prospectus of Congress party winning this seat will definitely be blurred especially when BJP has given mandate to PoJK refugee.
Sharma expressed confidence that JKPCC office bearers and Party high command will not discourage refugees and ensure party mandate to refugee only from RS Pura Jammu South constituency.
