JAMMU, Sept 5: In a significant development ahead of Assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir, some BJP members officially joined the Congress party on Wednesday in presence of senior Congress leader, former Minister and ex-MLA Jammu East Yogesh Sawhney, Choudhary Waffa, ex-Cousellor Ward No. 71, Shama Akhtar and Farid along with other ex-BJP members.
The new members were welcomed into the party fold and leaders encouraged them for their anticipated contribution towards strengthening the party at the grassroots level while emphasising Congress party’s commitment for ensuring progress of the people of Jammu.
Members who joined Indian National Congress from BJP and other parties included Farid (Dealer), Mohd Farooq, Mohd Rafiq, Jameel Ahmed, Munir Ahmed, Ghulam Mohd, Sobat Ali, Faqir Ali, Muneer Ali, Khadim Hussain, Rafiq Ahmed, Irshad Ahmed, Akbar Hussain, Shah Mohd, Razaq Mohd, Kaka Hussain, Rafiq Hussain, Khatam Hussain, Arshad Ahmed, Muneer (SBI), Manjoor Kohli, Akbar Ali, Rasheed Ahmed, Arshad Ali, Billo, Monawar, Zulfikar, Lal Hussain, Zafar Hussain and Waseem.
Addressing the party members Yogesh Sawhney stated that the Congress party has always stood for the people. The people have seen through the false and broken promises of the BJP.
The BJP’s failure to deliver on its promises, particularly in addressing the local issues of unemployment, infrastructure development and social welfare has given birth to ample disappointment among local people. This is the reason they have expressed their confidence in the Congress party’s leadership and vision for Jammu. As dedicated workers, new entrants will add to the pool of Congress party’s team, readying itself for forthcoming Assembly elections, Sawhney said.
