Fire breaks out at Bahu Plaza, several rescued by JKP

JAMMU, Sept 5: A massive fire broke out today at Gupta Towers in Bahu Plaza area, where several offices, including financial institutions and insurance companies, are located.
A police official said that on receiving the information about a raging fire, a team of Bahu Fort Police Station and the Fire Services quickly responded to protect lives and property.
He said the teams, led by SP South, along with SDPO East and SHO Bahu Fort, arrived on the scene with fire and emergency vehicles.
Despite efforts, the teams struggled to control the fire due to heavy smoke, he said, Several people, including office staff, were trapped inside the building, added the police official.
Prioritizing the safety of those trapped, he said, the police team rescued a number of people, including a woman on the third floor, who were suffocating from the smoke.
“The team safely evacuated them using an emergency escape ladder,” he said.
Pertinently, SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh personally supervised the entire rescue operation.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
