Income Tax Deptt organizes Taxpayer Outreach & Education Programme

LEH, Sept 6: The Income Tax Department organized the first of its kind Taxpayer Outreach and Education Programme in Leh today.
The interactive seminar in Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, Leh focused on raising awareness about the exemption provisions of the Income Tax Act, particularly benefiting Scheduled Tribes, trusts, societies, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), charitable hospitals, and charitable educational institutions in Ladakh.
This landmark event witnessed enthusiastic participation from local trusts, NGOs, and representatives of charitable hospitals and educational institutions.
Under the leadership and direction of Jaishree Sharma, Commissioner of Income Tax (Exemptions), Anirudh, Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax (Exemptions, Circle-1), Chandigarh, and Vikas Sharma, Income Tax Officer (Exemptions), Jammu Ward, addressed the gathering.
The speakers elaborated on various tax exemptions available under the Income Tax Act of 1961 for trusts, societies and NGOs, including the registration provisions and the latest amendments to the tax laws. They also took the time to engage with participants, addressing their queries and clarifying concerns about income tax provisions.
This initiative marks a significant step in enhancing the financial literacy of charitable organizations in Ladakh and empowering them with the knowledge to better serve their communities. It also sought to raise awareness regarding prevention of misuse of NPOs for money-laundering and terror-funding.
