JAMMU, Sept 7: Brigadier Khuda Baksh Memorial Public Hr. Sec. School, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Jammu, organized a significant Child Awareness and Orientation Programme on “POCSO” at the Sahir Ludhianvi Cultural Hall of Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust (GDCT) Complex, Jammu.
The event was inaugurated with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Yashpal Sharma, Special Judge Fast Track (POCSO), Jammu, along with guest of honours Dr. Samriti Sharma (Secretary DLSA) and Dr. Trishi Gupta (Panel Lawyer DLSA), and Arshad Ali Choudhary, Chairman of GDCT. During the ceremony, Choudhary presented mementos to the chief guest and guest of honours in recognition of their efforts in child welfare.
In his keynote address, Judge Sharma provided valuable insights on preventing child abuse and sexual exploitation. He emphasized the importance of compliance with the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA). He urged teachers, students, and professionals to report suspected abuse and highlighted the role of Governmental agencies and NGOs in raising awareness and providing support to abuse survivors.
Choudhary praised the contributions of the guest speakers and assured the audience that future programs will focus on positive parenting, non-violent discipline, and early detection of exploitation. Dr. Sharma and Dr. Gupta reinforced the need for a zero-tolerance policy towards child abuse and lauded GDCT for facilitating such educational initiatives. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Principal Nehreer Khan.
