JAMMU, Sept 7: The Kashmiri Pandit Sabha (KPS) today condemned the highly reprehensible, crude and antinational statement of Omar Abdullah regarding the capital punishment meted out to Afzal Guru.
In a press statement issued here today, K K Khosa, president of KPS said, “Although, this is not the first time that leadership of the national conference has been indulging in soft separatism and radical rhetoric to widen its vote bank, yet when it comes from a former chief minister, it shows that the state of Jammu and Kashmir was not in safe hands during the period 2009-2014.”
It’s all the more shocking when it comes from someone with a public school background where you rub shoulders with a cross section of the elite Indian population.
Omar Abdullah belongs to a generation which has had exposure to the national mainstream and therefore such regressive idiosyncrasies are actually surprising. Any Kashmiri political party and its leadership which is trying to rely on exploitative issues and narratives of the previous few decades in order to garner votes, is living in a fool’s paradise.
After the near extinction of terrorism, due to the clear and forthright policies of the GoI of zero tolerance, the large section of nationalists living in the Valley, who had been suffering silently for years are having a sigh of relief and will never support any antinational agenda.
The time has come to seek votes only by pursuing a positive agenda to create an environment of peace and harmony so that the youth of the Valley can become a partner in the overall success story of the great Indian nation. Articles 370 & 35A are done and dusted, resulting in a total overhaul of the political, social and economic milieu of Jammu and Kashmir.
No person in his right State of mind would ever think of trying to reverse the clock.
“The Kashmiri Pandits are yearning to return and resettle in the land of their forefathers for which a conducive environment is important. Therefore every political party should avoid pursuing controversial topics and agendas,” the statement read.
