Symposium on ‘Sustainable Heritage-Protection & Safeguarding’ held

JAMMU, Sept 8: NCF-UNESCO, IGNCA organized a symposium on ‘Sustainable Heritage-Protection & Safeguarding’ at New Delhi.
Prof Sukhdev Singh, Vice Chairman INTACH was guest of honour and he said that India being a vast country needs participation of the people to safeguard the cultural heritage.
Junhi Han, Chief of Culture Sector, UNESCO Regional Office, New Delhi focused on the association between UNESCO India and Ministry of Culture, GoI and INTACH.
Joint Secretary (NCF), Ministry of Culture, Gurmeet Chawla emphasized the importance of preserving heritage through Jan-Bhagidari.
Presentations were given by Anand Kanitkar, UNESCO and Padma Shri Dr K K Mohammed, former Regional Director, ASI.
Welcome address was given by Prof (Dr) Ramesh C Gaur, Dean (Administration) & Head of Kala Nidhi Division, IGNCA and vote of thanks was presented by Dr Arvind Kumar, Member Secretary, NCF.
The sessions included talks by Anand Kanitkar, UNESCO; Padma Shri Dr K K Mohammed, former Regional Director, ASI; P Harsha Bhargavi, Dr Vasant Sawankar, Director, ASI; Anil Mudgal, Chaitanya, Gopal Johari, Associate Professor, Department of Planning, Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar; Veda, Chairman, Deccan Heritage Academy Trust; Anil Dhir, Co-convener, INTACH Odisha Chapter; Ranbir Singh, Freelance Writer on Science & Cultural Heritage; Dr Shruti Nada Poddar, Founder, Shruti Foundation; Dr. T. Arun Raj, Director, DDU-IAG, ASI; Dr Kamakshi Maheshwari, Asst Professor, IITTM, Gwalior; Katyani Aggarwal, Curator & Founder, Dhatri Foundation and Anuradha Reddy.
Others who participated in the symposium were Neeraj Jain, Convener, INTACH Chanderi Chapter; Dr. Deependar Sharma, Convener, INTACH, Dhar Chapter; Mughda Rathor and Ashok Kumar Sharma, Convener, INTACH, Morena Chapter.
The technical panel discussions were moderated by Prof Ramesh C Gaur, Dr Arvind Kumar and Ritu Sethi.
The symposium concluded with closing remarks by Dr Arvind Kumar and Prof. (Dr) Ramesh C. Gaur.
