LEH, Sept 9: In a significant step towards enhancing Ladakh’s energy infrastructure, Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (retired), Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, laid the foundation stone for the State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC) cum Renewable Energy Monitoring Centre (REMC) at Power Development Department (PDD) Complex, Choglamsar, here today.
The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Advocate Tashi Gyalson, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC Leh, Dr Pawan Kotwal, Advisor to the LG, and senior officials from the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) and the Power Development Department (PDD) of Ladakh.
The new SLDC, equipped with state-of-the-art Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Energy Management System (EMS), alongside the Renewable Energy Monitoring Centre, will play a crucial role in real-time monitoring and control of Ladakh’s power grid. It will ensure stability, reliability, and the efficient integration of renewable energy sources. With the Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) spanning 532 kilometers and 28 links, the project aims to improve real-time connectivity and operational efficiency across the region.
The project, approved at a cost of Rs 193.85 crore (including consultancy) and awarded at Rs 158.51 crore, reflects the Government of India’s commitment to modernizing the energy landscape in Ladakh. POWERGRID has been designated as the Project Implementing Agency by the Ministry of Power, tasked with setting up the SLDC and REMC, which will eventually be handed over to Ladakh’s Power Development Department upon completion.
LG emphasized the importance of completing the project in a timely manner, calling it a key pillar in Ladakh’s power infrastructure.
The SLDC cum REMC will be integrated with the Northern Load Dispatch Centre in New Delhi, providing Ladakh with real-time visibility and control over its power network.
