Dr Sunil is poorest in terms of assets but most qualified

JAMMU, Sept 9: BJP candidate from Jammu North and former Minister Sham Lal Sharma is richest among all seven contestants of the party who have so far filed their nomination papers for the different constituencies going to polls under third phase of the scheduled Assembly elections in J&K Union Territory.

He is followed by Pawan Kumar Gupta and Darshan Kumar, BJP candidates from Udhampur West and Basohli, respectively while Dr Sunil Bhardwaj, BJP candidate from Ramnagar Assembly constituency, is ‘poorest’ in terms of assets but most qualified among all the contestants.
Till date, total seven official candidates of BJP have filed their nomination papers for different Assembly segments going to polls under Phase-III.
As per the affidavits filed by these candidates along with nomination papers before the Returning Officer concerned for election to the Legislative Assembly, Sham Lal Sharma has Rs 15.80 crore immovable and Rs 1.93 crore movable assets.
Details of these assets include Agricultural and non-agricultural land, commercial building at Pata Ploura, residential house at Pallanwalla, Sheller and flour mill, vehicles, cash and bank deposits.
Among these, assets worth Rs 15.70 crore were self acquired by Sham Lal Sharma while Rs 10 lakh assets were inherited. Besides, his wife has assets worth Rs 2.36 crores, including 1.72 kg gold. Sham Lal Sharma also has loan liabilities of Rs 1.22 crores.
In respect of assets, Sham Lal Sharma is followed by Pawan Kumar Gupta, who has Rs 14.88 crore assets. These include Rs 5.24 crore movable assets in the form of bank deposits, investments, jewellery, cash etc while immovable assets include agricultural land, two shops at Chabutra Bazar, commercial space at Bahu Fort Jammu, residential building worth Rs 4 crores and share capital in Amar Hotel Katra.
Pawan Gupta’s wife has assets worth Rs 3.38 crores, including one kg gold, share capital in business, etc. Among the assets Pawan Gupta having, Rs 14.14 crore are inherited and Rs 75 lakh self acquired. He has no liabilities.
Darshan Kumar, BJP candidate from Basohli, has Rs 9.96 crore assets. These include movable assets worth Rs 6.88 crores and immovable assets worth Rs 3.08 crores.
Running a Transport business, Darshan Kumar has 27 Trucks and other vehicles besides bank deposits, land in Basohli, Bhoond, plots at Maharashtra, Delhi, shops, residential house at Bhoond, etc.
Arvind Gupta, who is BJP candidate from Jammu West, has 1.04 crore movable and 63.06 lakh immovable assets. Besides, his wife has 1.74 crore movable assets. These include cars, 1.25 kg gold and one kg silver ornaments, cash and buildings.
Former MLA Jewan Lal, who has been once again given BJP mandate from Bani, has Rs 15.80 lakh movable and Rs 40 lakh immovable assets while his wife has Rs 14.50 lakh movable assets.
Vijay Kumar, BJP candidate from Hiranagar, has Rs 20.98 lakh movable and Rs 55 lakh immovable assets while his wife has Rs 34.81 lakh movable and Rs one lakh immovable assets. He has also liabilities of Rs 14.50 lakh in the form of loans.
Dr Sunil Bhardwaj, BJP candidate from Ramnagar Assembly constituency, has Rs 10.17 lakh movable and Rs 40 lakh immovable assets only.
Ph D in Business Management and working as a Professor in Jammu University, Dr Sunil Bhardwaj is poorest in respect of assets but highest qualified among all these candidates.
Educational qualification of Vijay Kumar and Jewan Lal is LLB and B Sc, respectively while Pawan Kumar Gupta is BE in Civil from Regional Engineering College Srinagar.
Arvind Gupta is 12th pass while both Sham Lal and Darshan Kumar are Matriculates.
