UDHAMPUR, Sept 10: Senior Trade Union leader from Jammu province, Som Nath has said that daily wage workers will play an important role in the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
“There are over 61000 daily wagers working in different Government departments in J&K and their role in the coming Assembly elections will be crucial. They will actively participate in the elections and have decided to support a party which will promise to resolve their long pending issues,” Som Nath said while talking to media persons here.
The Trade Union leader strongly criticized the role of UT Administration and said these daily wagers are suffering since long and despite assurance by the Lt Governor and top BJP leaders in J&K, their fate remained undecided. PHE workers are on protest dharna for the last many months in Jammu but no body in the UT Administration or BJP Government listens to their sufferings. Their families are facing starvation as many of them remained unpaid for the last six years. So many daily wagers were retired during past few years but due to wrong policies of the Government, they returned home empty handed. Government failed to secure their future.
Som Nath further alleged that UT Government is violating Minimum Wages Act and doing great injustice to the daily wage workers in J&K. Even the employees and pensioners are denied Medical allowance at the scale which is being paid in Central departments and other UTs.
He strongly demanded regularisation of all the daily wagers including Anganwadi workers and helpers, Mid Day meals workers, ASHA workers, implementation of Minimum Wages Act in J&K, remove shortage of staff in all the wings of PHE/Jal Shakti and other departments. He criticized LG Administration for not allowing workers/employees unions to protest for their democratic rights and justice.
Trade Union leader criticised to the LG Administration and the Central Government for imposing heavy taxes on the public. He said inflated power bills are being imposed on the consumers and poor worker and lower middle class people are unable to bear this burden.
He said on Devika Project, J&K government claimed to have spent Rs 186 crores in Udhampur but on the ground even Rs 5 crores are not appear to have spent. People strongly raised issue and demanded high level inquiry but LG Administration or BJP Govt never bothered about massive misuse of public money. He strongly opposed the opening of scores of wine shops in Jammu division.
