Those with little educational qualification have more assets

JAMMU, Sept 10: Harsh Dev Singh, one of the highly educated and senior most politicians, who remained Cabinet Minister and MLA for three consecutive terms, has three criminal cases registered against him for various offences under RPC.

Contesting as candidate of Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) India from Chenani Assembly constituency, Harsh Dev Singh is being supported by National Conference and Congress Party as their joint candidate.
As per the affidavit filed by him along with nomination papers before the Returning Officer concerned for election to the Legislative Assembly, three different FIRs have been registered against Harsh Dev Singh at Udhampur Police Station.
These include FIR No. 366/2018, dated 23-07-2018, Under Section 188/353,147/148 and 504 RPC; FIR No. 121/2018, dated 17-03-2018, Under Section 323/147,504/506,294/298 RPC and FIR No. 34/2017, dated 21-10-2017, Under Section 353/188,506 RPC.
However, none of these cases has been so far challaned in the court of law and Harsh Dev Singh, in his affidavit, has described these cases as politically motivated by the District Administration Udhampur.
Former Cabinet Minister and three times MLA Harsh Dev Singh is Law Graduate and MA English from Jammu University besides having done Advance Course in International Humanitarian Law from Harvard University, USA.
He has Rs 13.25 lakh movable and Rs 25 immovable assets while his wife has Rs 79 immovable and Rs 38.99 lakh movable assets.
Besides Harsh Dev Singh, Dr Narinder Singh, R S Pathania and Dr Devinder Kumar Manyal, BJP candidates from R S Pura (Jammu South), Udhampur East and Ramgarh, respectively are among well qualified contestants in Phase III of scheduled Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory.
Dr Narinder Singh is Ph D in Forestry and working as Professor in SKUAST Jammu while Dr Devinder Manyal is MBBS and Diploma in Orthopaedics. R S Pathania and Independent candidate from Jammu East, Chander Mohan Sharma are Law Graduate.
National Conference candidates from Jammu North and Nagrota, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra and Joginder Singh Kaku, respectively are Graduates while DPAP candidate from R S Pura (Jammu South) Ch Gharu Ram is also B Sc.
Interestingly, NC candidate from Udhampur East Sunil Verma and BJP candidate from Billawar, Satish Kumar Sharma have little educational qualification (Matriculate) but are richer than other contestants in terms of movable and immovable assets.
Sunil Verma has more than Rs 10 crore assets while Satish Kumar Sharma and his spouse have more than Rs 15 crore movable and immovable assets.
BJP candidate from Akhnoor and former SSP, Mohan Lal has Rs 69 lakh movable assets and joint property of Rs 2.35 crore with his wife. They have also liabilities of housing loan etc worth Rs 85 lakh approximately.
Joginder Singh Kaku has more than Rs 10 crore movable and immovable assets while former minister Ajay Sadhotra and his wife have more than Rs 2 crore assets.
Former Ministers Ch Gharu Ram and Dr Devinder Kumar Manyal have assets worth Rs 3 crore and Rs 4.5 crore , respectively.
Former MLA R S Pathania has immovable assets worth Rs 30 lakh while his wife has movable assets worth Rs 17.38 lakh.
Dr Narinder Singh has Rs 2.20 crore immovable and Rs 77.08 lakh movable assets while his wife has Rs 94.36 lakh assets.
Chander Mohan Sharma has Rs 37 lakh assets while his wife has Rs 98 lakh assets. They have also liabilities of Rs 45 lakh as Housing Loan and Loan against LIC policy.
