Govt constitutes panel for preparing Medico Legal Manual for J&K

JAMMU, Sept 11: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has constituted a Principal, Government Medical College, Anantnag-led panel for preparing the Medico Legal Manual for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
As per an order, the panel would comprise of representative of Director Prosecution, J&K (not below the rank of Joint Director), an officer of the rank of Superintendent of Police to be nominated by the Home Department, representative of Director, Forensic Science Laboratory, J&K (not below the rank of Joint Director); Director, Coordination (New Medical Colleges); Heads of the Department, Forensic Science, Government Medical Colleges, Srinagar and Jammu, representative of Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs (not below the rank of Additional Secretary) as members, Head of the Department, Forensic Science, Government Medical College Anantnag as Member Secretary and any other member as may be co-opted by the Committee as Special Invitee.
The order said that the committee shall prepared Medico-Legal Examination and Post Mortem Reports (MedLeaPR) Manual for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, which shall inter-alia includes protocol for Medico-Legal Examination and Post mortem examination, role of different stakeholders including police, health and prosecution, guidelines for examination, sample collection preservation etc.
The committee shall also seek comments from general public, including organisations/institutions in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, if required.
The committee to be serviced by Health and Medical Education Department has been asked to submit its report within a period of one month from the date of issuance of the order.
