JAMMU, Sept 11: Former Dy Chief Minister and senior Congress leader, Tara Chand will contest Assembly election from open seat of Chhamb constituency and a retired JKAS officer Ashok Bhagat from reserved seat of Akhnoor constituency in district Jammu.

After long consultations and amidst many pulls and pressures, the Congress Party finally released the last list of five candidates for the third phase of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir tonight.
A three times winner from Chhamb constituency, former Speaker of the J&K Legislative Assembly and Ex-DyCM, Tara Chand will contest elections from his home Chhamb constituency. During previous elections, he was defeated by the BJP candidate, Krishan Chand Bhagat from Chhamb.
Ashok Bhagat, a retired JKAS officer has been fielded by the party from reserved (SC) Akhnoor constituency. His father was a staunch Congress leader and a noted social activist of the area. BJP has fielded a retired SSP, Mohan Lal Bhagat, who took VRS, as party candidate from this constituency.
JKPCC secretary and former Vice Chairman of Advisory Board for Scheduled Castes, Bhushan Dogra has been given party mandate from Suchetgarh (Reserved) seat.
Senior leader Mir Iqbal has been fielded from Baramulla seat while former legislator, Nizamuddin Bhat from Bandipora. Bhat, a former PDP leader who remained MLC and later was elected as MLA from this constituency.
It is pertinent to mention here that, senior party leader Satish Sharma, son of ex- MP, late Madan Lal Sharma was already campaigning for the party in Chhamb constituency. He switched over to Chhamb after Akhnoor seat was reserved by the Delimitation Commission.
Sources said that Satish is likely to contest as Independent candidate from Chhamb constituency.
Tomorrow, (September 12) is the last date of filing nomination papers for the third phase of the Assembly elections in J&K. The polling for this phase will be held on October 1.
