SRINAGAR, Sept 12: The final leg of the Legends League Cricket (LLC) tournament, featuring 124 former international players like Chris Gayle and Ian Bell, will take place at Srinagar’s Bakshi Stadium from October 9 to 16.
Raman Raheja, co-founder of LLC, along with former Indian players Mohammad Kaif and Naman Ojha, announced the details at a press conference. He said that seven matches will be played during the week-long tournament between six teams, bringing together international cricket legends. “After nearly four decades, Kashmir will host international cricket, with legends participating in the LLC,” Raheja said.
The tournament begins in Jodhpur on September 20, followed by six matches in Surat, before moving to Jammu and Srinagar for the final leg. LLC’s third season will feature 124 cricketers from 30 countries, excluding Pakistan. International stars like Upul Tharanga, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, and Ian Bell are expected to participate.
Raheja shared that the tournament will feature 25 matches across four cities, with the top two teams advancing to the final match at Bakshi Stadium on October 16. “The third leg of the tournament will take place at Maulana Azad Stadium in Jammu from October 3 to October 8, followed by the final matches in Srinagar,” he said.
He said that Bakshi Stadium, primarily a football ground, was chosen over Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium due to its larger seating capacity of over 30,000, compared to the latter’s 13,000. “Curators from the United States are preparing the pitch to suit both cricket and football,” he said.
He also highlighted the support from the Sports Council and local administration. “Cricket legends like Shikhar Dhawan, Chris Gayle, Suresh Raina, Dinesh Karthik, Ian Bell, and Harbhajan Singh will represent the six franchises in the LLC,” he added.
Mohammad Kaif mentioned that the event would inspire local players by giving them a chance to see their cricketing idols in action. He assured fans that retired players will still play with great intensity to inspire young athletes.
The six teams in the tournament are the India Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Konark Suryas, Manipal Tigers, Southern Super Stars, and Urbanrisers Hyderabad. The previous edition featured over 200 players, including stars like Gautam Gambhir, Aaron Finch, Martin Guptill, Hashim Amla and Ross Taylor.
