ICAI delegation meets Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, discusses various issues

JAMMU, Sept 12: A delegation led by Vineet Kohli, Chairman of the J&K branch of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), along with Nakul Saraf (past chairman, J&K ICAI) and several Chartered Accountants and members of the Bar Council, met Vikram Sahay, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax (PCIT) for the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
During the meeting, the delegation discussed various issues and challenges faced by professionals and taxpayers in the region, particularly concerning pending appeals, rectifications, and other income tax-related matters. The professionals voiced their concerns and sought solutions to improve efficiency and reduce delays in the resolution of these matters.
In response, Sahay assured the group that he is committed to addressing their concerns and resolving the issues faced by taxpayers and professionals alike. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Income Tax Department and stakeholders, stating, “We will work together to resolve grievances and ensure the smooth functioning of tax administration in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.”
He also revealed plans for outreach programs aimed at raising awareness among taxpayers across different regions of J&K. These programs will focus on educating taxpayers about their rights, obligations, and the services available to them, fostering a more informed and compliant taxpayer base.
Sahay reiterated his commitment to improving the tax administration system in both the Union Territories, ensuring transparency, efficiency, and fairness for all stakeholders involved.
