KATHUA, Sept 14: District Cyber Cell Kathua under overall supervision of SSP Kathua has once again demonstrated its commitment to combat cyber crime by recovering online defrauded amount of Rs 30,000.
Police said that on May 9 this year, an online complaint was received at Cyber Cell Kathua through NCCR portal in which a complainant namely Shubankit Badwal of Patel Nagar, Kathua reported online fraud of Rs 30,000 from his bank account. The unknown fraudster impersonating himself as an employee of trading application Grow manipulated the victim to send him money for investment in share market on his behalf.
During the investigation, the Cyber Cell, Kathua team headed by IC Cyber Cell Kathua, SI Shubham Mahajan acted swiftly and exhibited hectic efforts and freezed the fraudster accounts in which the defrauded amount was transferred. Today the defrauded amount of Rs 30,000 has been recovered and credited back to the account of victim on the implementation of Court order while further investigation is in progress, police said.
Pertinently, from the date of establishment, Cyber Cell Kathua has recovered defrauded amount of Rs 26,86,161 so far. Police said this achievement underscores the unit’s expertise dedication and tireless efforts in safeguarding the common citizens against online fraud and cheating.
District police Kathua has once again appealed to the general public to remain extra vigilant and report promptly to Cyber Cell Kathua or the National Cyber Crime Helpline Number 1930 or visit www.cybercrime.gov.in if any suspicious call or online cheating is noticed.
