JAMMU, Sept 14: Provincial president of J&K National Conference (JKNC), Rattan Lal Gupta has strongly condemned the recent statement of BJP leader, Tarun Chugh for blaming the National Conference for the rise of terrorism in the Union Territory.
Gupta called the accusations baseless, questioning the BJP’s credibility and the failure of its ‘double engine government’ in addressing the issue of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. He was speaking in a joining function organized by Jatinder Singh Lucky at party office here today.
“Blaming the National Conference for terrorism is nothing but a desperate attempt by the BJP to mislead the people of Jammu and Kashmir. If the National Conference were truly responsible, why has the BJP’s own government, both at the Centre and its proxy govt in the Union Territory, failed to curb terrorism during its tenure?” Gupta questioned.
He further added that such false allegations are the tactics by the BJP to divert attention from its own failures in governance. Even today despite the PM’s presence in Doda, three encounters were going on in J&K in which our two brave soldiers were martyred and two injured. This is a clear indication that the BJP’s strategy to curb terrorism has not yielded the desired results,” he said.
Senior NC leader emphasized that the National Conference has sacrificed its hundreds of dedicated party leaders and workers including speaker, ministers and legislators due to this terrorism. He said that NC has always fought for the preservation of democracy and the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, standing firm against the forces that threaten peace and stability in the region. He urged the people of Jammu region to support the National Conference in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Senior leaders Sheikh Bashir Ahmad, Pardeep Bali, Issrar Khan, Rakesh Singh Raka, Tejinder Singh District president Jammu Urban YNC, Gurmeet Singh and others were also present on the occasion. About a dozen people joined NC during the function.
