Srinagar, Apr 18:  Fear gripped Panchayat members in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, where militants last night shot dead a Sarpanch of the main opposition party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Mohammad Amin Pandith, Sarpanch of village Gulzarpora in Pulwama was shot dead by militants last night leading to fear among the Panchayat members. “We’re scared to move out of our houses since Pandit’s killing. The killing has deeply perturbed us,” a PDP Sarpanch said. “We are simply village heads and we have nothing to do with politics. People elected us to represent them,” he added
A group of Panchayat members today protested in Pulwama against the Government for its failure to protect them and against the killing of Pandith.
Haji Mohammad Amin Parray, Sarpanch of village Hall in district Pulwama, said that the Panchs and Sarpanchs have nothing to do with the elections. “We have been elected to work for development of villages only and we have nothing to do with politics”, said Haji.
“No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attacks on the Panchayat members. Government has failed to identify the attackers despite our repeated demands that killers should be exposed”, the Sarpanch said.
