SRINAGAR, Sept 17: National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah said today that nothing is impossible, suggesting that the Supreme Court’s verdict on the abrogation of Article 370 could be overturned by a larger bench in the future.
Omar made these remarks while addressing Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s claim that Article 370 is now history and will never be part of India’s Constitution again.
During a campaign in Budgam, wherefrom the NC leader is contesting elections, he emphasized that the restoration of Article 370 is not impossible, noting that the decision to abolish it was made by Parliament, not by God.
“The abrogation was a decision made by people, not by God,” he said. He also pointed out that several past Supreme Court decisions have been reversed by larger benches. “Three previous rulings by the Supreme Court were overturned by a five-judge bench, and a seven-judge bench could reverse this decision in the future,” he said.
Omar also criticized the Home Minister’s focus on Article 370, urging him to address the rising terrorism in Jammu. “You can blame us where we are responsible, but the centre has been directly ruling Jammu and Kashmir for the last ten years. Who is responsible for the situation in Jammu now?” he asked.
