JMC seizes 18 kgs of polythene, imposes fine on defaulters

JAMMU, Apr 19: In a drive, a team of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has seized 18 kgs of polythene and imposed a fine of Rs 12,400 to the defaulters, today.
To implement the ban on polythene, smoking, gutka at public places a team of Food Assistant Sanitation Officers, Sanitary Inspectors along field staff under the supervision of Dr Mohd Saleem Khan, Health Officer, JMC on the direction of Commissioner, JMC Kiran Wattal inspected the various food establishments including meat shops, sweetshops, cooked food, dhabas, tea stalls, halwai shops, in the area of Gandhi Nagar, Sanjay Nagar, Digiana, Gangyal, Narwal, Greater Kailash, Shastri Nagar.
During the round, citizens were advised not to smoke in the public places as it is injurious to health. All the business owners were instructed not to use polythene bags. The Health Officer informed that the drive will continue in future also and general public is required to co-operate with Jammu Municipal Corporation to make the ongoing drive a success and to make Jammu city free of polythene in this summer season.
