JAMMU, Sept 22: Dr Akshay Gupta, Professor of Orthodontics at Indira Gandhi Government Dental College Jammu, was honoured for his significant contributions to the field of orthodontics during the 58th Indian Orthodontic Society (IOS) Conference held in Bangalore.
The award, presented by IOS president-elect Dr Sridevi, acknowledged Dr Gupta’s efforts in raising awareness and advancing the practice of orthodontics. The presentation took place at a special function attended by IOS joint secretary Dr Amit and Dr Aravind, Dean of Saveetha Dental College, Chennai (ranked the top dental institute in India by NIRF), at Bangalore.
Dr Gupta’s notable initiatives include organizing the Smile Rally in Jammu, orthodontic awareness camps, and founding the first-ever Jammu Orthodontic Study Group (JOSG). Under his leadership, JOSG hosted the first J&K Orthodontic Symposium in November 2023, a key event on the IOS presidential calendar. The symposium attracted participants from premier institutions across the country, including AIIMS, PGI, and KGMC.
During the IOS Conference held at Clark’s Exotica from September 20-22, Dr Gupta was also entrusted with chairing a scientific session dedicated to research paper presentations by guest speakers. He further contributed to the event by serving as a judge for various competitive research presentations by doctors from across India.
