JAMMU, Sept 22: AIIMS Jammu has taken a significant step in advancing healthcare services with the introduction of specialized ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) surgical procedures.
Recently, the ENT Department of the Institute successfully performed two critical surgeries; the excision of a submandibular gland tumor and an ear canal tumor. The surgical team included Dr Amardeep Singh (Associate Professor), Dr Darwin Kaushal (Additional Professor), Dr Akriti Mahajan (Senior Resident) and Dr Nikhil Bhatti (Junior Resident). These procedures were conducted under the supervision of the anesthesia team led by Dr Shruti Sharma (Additional Professor), with support from Dr Bindu, Dr Deeba and Dr Ajay Shankar.
The launch of these advanced ENT services is a crucial development for the region, as head and neck tumors and other complex ENT conditions require specialized care. The availability of these services in Jammu eliminates the need for patients to travel to larger cities, reducing both the physical and financial strain on them. Access to these procedures locally will ensure early diagnosis, timely interventions, and improved treatment outcomes for the community.
This expansion is not only beneficial for patients but also for the local healthcare workforce. AIIMS Jammu is committed to training its medical professionals in advanced ENT techniques, thereby building a skilled team of local experts. This strategic investment ensures the long-term growth of healthcare services in the region.
Under the leadership of Prof (Dr) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Jammu, the ENT Department, spearheaded by Dr Darwin Kaushal and Dr Amardeep Singh, aims to offer cutting-edge procedures such as head and neck cancer surgery, skull base surgeries, cochlear implants, voice and airway surgeries, and more.
This initiative aligns with national health objectives to expand access to specialized medical services across India, reinforcing AIIMS Jammu’s role in reducing healthcare disparities and fostering regional medical excellence.
