GENEVA, Sept 29: Javed Ahmad Beigh, a young Kashmiri Muslim political activist from Kashmir Valley made three “interventions” against Pakistan in a single session of United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), an intergovernmental body, which is part of the United Nations (UN).
Javed Ahmad Beigh, who hails from Budgam district, made these “interventions” at an ongoing 57th session of UNHRC at Geneva, Switzerland.
Beigh made his first “intervention” on 20th September, wherein he spoke about the miserable plight of the people of PoGB, a remote and little known part of what is often generally known as Pakistan Occupied Jammu Kashmir (PoJK). It was for the first time that an Indian citizen had separately raised the issue of the plight of the people of Pakistan occupied Gilgit Baltistan.
Beigh made his second “intervention” on 25th September, wherein he spoke about the recent brutal oppression and subjugation of civilian protests by the state of Pakistan in PoJK. The people of PoJK were peacefully protesting against uncontrolled inflation and inflated electricity bills. The state of Pakistan however used disproportionate force to brutally crush the civilian protests by sending its paramilitary force and police constabulary from Pakistan’s Punjab province.
Beigh made his third “intervention” on 26th September by speaking about the plight of ethnic. Pashtun Shia minority of Parachinar of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. Pashtun Shias of Parachinar have been under constant and violent attacks from religious extremist forces for over a decade in which hundreds of innocent Shias have lost their lives.
On the side event of the 57th session of UNHRC, Mr Beigh was also invited to the prestigious Geneva Press Club to deliver his speech on the plight of religious minorities of Pakistan, especially Hindus, Sikhs and Christians followed by a question answer session. Beigh delivered an emotionally charged powerful speech at the club in front of an august gathering including prominent delegates from different nations. Beigh also attended an exhibition on “J&K victims of Pakistan sponsored Terrorism” at the historic Broken Chair in Geneva, Switzerland, where he met a galaxy of activists and media personalities from across the globe and made them aware about the role that Pakistan is playing in J&K in sponsoring terrorism and religious radicalism as well as killing innocent Kashmiris for last 3 decades.
