SRINAGAR, Sept 29: National Conference (NC) Vice president Omar Abdullah today said that an internal survey of the party suggests that no other party except National Conference-Congress will form the next Government in Jammu and Kashmir.
When asked about NC’s election prospects on the sidelines of an election rally at Handwara, Omar expressed confidence, citing internal surveys that predict a favourable outcome.
He said that the NC-Congress alliance would form the next Government in J&K.
When asked about the BJP’s criticism of the NC over the past year, Omar responded, “The BJP has nothing left to offer in the last 5-6 years. They have done nothing for the people. There is no sign of development anywhere. Naturally, they will target the NC and the Congress.”
He accused the BJP of neglecting rising militancy in the Jammu region, criticizing their inaction. “Whether it is Pir Panchal, Reasi, Jammu, Samba, or Kathua, the situation is worsening. Attacks on pilgrims have happened under their watch,” he said.
Omar urged the Government of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other global leaders to intervene and push for peace in the Middle East after the killing of Hezbollah chief Syed Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli airstrike.
He said that “clouds of war” are hovering over the Middle East, urging world leaders to pressurize Israel for establishing peace in the region.
Omar reiterated that his party has consistently opposed Israel’s use of force. “We have opposed it, condemned it, and repeatedly called for an end to it,” he said.
He emphasized that world powers must pressure Israel to stop the ongoing violence and loss of innocent lives over the past year. “Whether in Gaza, Lebanon, or elsewhere, after what happened yesterday, it seems as if there are clouds of war across the entire region,” he said.
On a question about People’s Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti cancelling her campaign in solidarity with those killed in Lebanon and Gaza, he refrained from commenting on her decision.
