Implement recommendations of Justice Sagheer Committee : Kamal

SRINAGAR, July 3: National Conference, Additional General Secretary, Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal today said the autonomy resolution passed by the Legislative Assembly is a legal document and it should be endorsed by New Delhi.
Dr. Kamal said that the demand for restoration of pre-1953 position is closely related to the aspirations and wishes of the common masses of the state. He said the Union Government should not waste any further time in restoring the pre-1953 position of the State.
In his speech at the party meeting held at the party headquarters here, Dr Kamal asked Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh to show magnanimity and implement the recommendations of Justice Sagheer Committee report. He said “it is in the interests of the Central Government to implement the recommendations of the Justice Sagheer Committee”.
“The autonomy document has become a legal document now. It has been recommended and passed by state legislature. The document has been endorsed by Justice Sageer Ahmad also. Time has come when New Delhi should adopt a path of reaching out to the people by endorsing the demand of the National Conference,” said Dr Kamal.
In his speech, Minister for Rural Development, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Mohammad Sagar said that restoration of autonomy is not only a demand but also a mission for which the National Conference leaders and workers have offered sacrifices.
Sagar assured that the gutted Dastigeer Sahib shrine at Khanyar would be re- constructed on the old pattern. He said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has already issued directions for reconstructing the shrine within two and half years. He asked the people to show restraint and not to allow the subversive elements to take advantage of the situation.
Minister for Environment and Forests, Mian Altaf Ahmad, Chief Minister’s Advisor Mubarak Gul and Minister of State for Home and Tourism, Nasir Aslam Wani also addressed the meeting.
In their separate speeches these leaders demanded the restoration of pre-1953 position. They said that the resolve of the party vis-à-vis restoration of pre-1953 position is justified. They said the party will never compromise on the autonomy document and would ensure that the demand is taken to its logical conclusion.
The participants passed a resolution requesting the Prime Minister to implement the recommendations of Justice Sagheer Committee. National Conference Kashmir province President Ali Mohammad Dar along with senior party leaders like Peerzada Ghulam Ahmad Shah and Mohammad Yousuf Teng also addressing the gathering.
