JAMMU, Oct 2: Dr Vikas Sharma, former president of the Jammu University Research Scholars Executive Association (JURSEA), today led a protest against alleged violation of Model Code of Conduct by Jammu University and inaction by the Election Commission of India.
He alleged that JU was fast-tracking key administrative appointments in violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), which is currently in effect due to the on-going Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir whereas the Election Commission was deliberately turning a Nelson’s eye towards this violation.
The protesting students and scholars raised slogans against the JU and Election Commission for being hand in glove with each other to benefit sympathisers of a particular political party.
Dr Sharma said that both JU and the Election Commission were colluding to benefit individuals affiliated with a particular political party. “Despite the MCC being in place, JU is rushing to fill long-vacant positions such as Registrar, Controller of Examinations, Director of Internal Quality Assurance (DIQA), and Director of IT, with interviews scheduled for October 4-5,” he said.
Dr. Sharma appealed the Election Commission to immediately intervene and halt the recruitment process, calling for the cancellation of the interview notifications. He warned of escalating protests if the issue is not addressed.
Dr Sharma also urged the public and authorities to take a stand against this alleged breach of democratic principles, vowing that protests would continue until justice is delivered.
