Disengagement at LAC

Sir,
The ongoing disengagement along the India-China border is a positive step, but significant challenges remain. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s assessment that 75% of disengagement issues have been addressed offers hope, but the continued military presence is alarming.
The border standoff, which disrupted peace in 2020, reflects deeply rooted mistrust between the two nations. As both India and China maintain large troop deployments, the potential for further escalations remains high. Diplomatic channels, including the 31 rounds of WMCC talks, are essential in preventing miscalculations, but true progress requires full disengagement and rebuilding of trust.
Both nations must prioritize dialogue and de-escalation for long-term peace, especially as regional stability depends on their cooperation. The BRICS summit offers a critical platform to resolve remaining issues.
