One Nation, One Election

Sir,
The “One Nation, One Election” proposal is a transformative idea that promises efficiency, cost savings, and more consistent governance. Synchronising national and state elections could reduce election fatigue and allow governments to focus on long-term policies rather than short-term populism. However, the challenges to its implementation-constitutional amendments, potential disruptions to federalism, and logistical complexities-cannot be overlooked. India’s diversity and federal structure demand a phased, carefully planned approach to this ambitious reform. Starting with a pilot project in select states could provide valuable insights before scaling nationwide. Broad consensus and safeguarding state-specific interests are essential for the success of this bold initiative.
