Hold election for DPs’ one seat: MJR-47

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Oct 4: MJR-47, an organisation of displaced persons from PoJK has demanded to hold elections for nomination of Assembly member among the PoJK DPs.
In a press statement the organisation said that the Govt of India had made provision for nomination of two Assembly seats for Kashmiri Migrants and one Assembly seat for PoJK DP in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. The said provision was made on the recommendations of Delimitation Commission for giving representation to all sections of people.
The Delimitation Commission was categorical for providing representation to Kashmiri Migrants by quoting two Assembly seats whose population count of mere 1.56 lakhs (as stated in the said bill passed ). However, the Delimitation Commission did not restrict or enumerate the nominations of PoJK DPs of 16 lakhs population. The Govt of India ignoring the total population provided only one seat for eyewash.
Now, when govt has provided one seat for DPs of 1947 by nomination , it’s impressed that it should be done by election by the DPs voters only. As nomination fails the very purpose of electing representatives by the voters, as per the Representation of Peoples Act, when the voters are there in abundance for whom the representative is to be selected. The selection of this proposed nomination  should be carried out in respect of PoJK DPs by due process of election so that they can send their representatives selecting them by election amongst the PoJK DPs only.
Even the two seats provided to Kashmiri Migrants may also be done by election so that representation is made by public belonging to the class.
The role of PoJK DPs has not been recognized in its true sense. The PoJK DPs are the first saviors of J&K State, fought the Pak Army/ Tribal raiders to defend the State and faced genocide sacrificing more than 40,000 lives, dislocation, struggle, misery etc. for more than seven decades are being ignored .
MJR-47 strongly demands that the proposed nomination  of member for this seat be carried out by due process of open election only otherwise the meagre benefit of allocation of just one seat will also be defeated.
