JAMMU, Oct 5: HexaMed Healthcare organized a workshop on “Exercise is Medicine”, with the objective to promote workplace health and ergonomics.
Led by Dr Gaurav Vaid, a renowned Physiotherapist and an expert in Chiropractic care, Osteopathy and a motivational speaker, the session aimed to educate healthcare professionals and staff about the importance of ergonomics, body postures and injury prevention in promoting a healthier, more productive workplace environment.
Dr Vaid introduced the science of biomechanics, explaining how different work positions affect the body by measuring the force exerted on muscles and joints. He distinguished between static postures, such as sitting or standing in one position for extended periods and dynamic activities, which involve the rhythmic contraction and relaxation of muscles, like walking.
The session underscored the risks of prolonged static postures, often leading to conditions like Cumulative Trauma Disorders (CTD), Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI) and Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSD).
Highlighting the common causes of these injuries, Dr Vaid pointed out that repetitive or prolonged activities, awkward postures, static positions, vibration, extreme temperatures and forceful exertions contribute significantly to workplace injuries. He also provided practical solutions, suggesting the implementation of administrative controls, work practice controls and engineering controls to minimize risks.
“The integration of exercise and proper ergonomics into daily routines is essential for preventing long-term injuries. With the right postures and regular activity, individuals can improve their productivity while safeguarding their physical well-being,” Dr Vaid emphasized.
Attendees found the workshop highly insightful, gaining valuable knowledge on how to implement ergonomic practices to reduce injuries. HexaMed Healthcare continues to prioritize employee well-being through such educational initiatives, a spokesman of the company said.
The event concluded with an open question and answer session, where Dr Vaid answered queries from the participants, providing personalized advice and further reinforcing the message that exercise truly is a medicine.
