JAMMU, Apr 24: The work in the High Court as well as District Court Complex remained affected for the fourth day today due to the non-appearance of Advocates in protest against assault on their colleague by Gandhi Nagar Police.
Reacting to the statement of SSP Jammu, Senior Advocate M K Bhardwaj, president of J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu, said, “the stand of the police to hold an inquiry by any independent agency vindicates our stand that the erring officials need to be disassociated from the inquiry by placing them under suspension, which is pre requisite for any independent and impartial inquiry”.
“The moral of such officials, who are indulging in harassment and illegal detention of innocent citizens and violating the rights of life and personal liberty of innocent citizens, need not to be encouraged”, he said, adding “the confidence of the citizens in general and advocate fraternity in particular which has been shattered by such repeated incidents needs to be restored by resorting to the necessary steps”.
Meanwhile, Bar Associations of districts and Muffasils including Reasi, Katra, Poonch, Rajouri, Samba, Kathua, Hiranagar, Ramban, Batote, Bhaderwah, Kishtwar, Doda, Udhampur, Bishnah, R S Pura, Akhnoor, Nowshera, Bhillawer, Bani, Majalata, Ramnagar, Chenani, Banihal, Thathri, Basohli, Sunderbani also suspended work against the incident.
