Display list of medicines available in hospitals: SIC

JAMMU, Apr 24: In a significant judgment, which would prove beneficial to people in distress, State Information Commissioner has directed the Government to display list of all the medicines including the life saving drugs available to the patients free of cost in all the Government health institutions across the State.
While disposing of a complaint filed by RTI activist Deepak Sharma, the State Information Commissioner, Dr S K Sharma directed the Commissioner/ Secretary, Health and Medical Education Department, Principal Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu and Director Health Services Jammu to ensure that list of all the medicines including the life saving drugs available to the patients free of cost in the hospitals/health centres be displayed at prominent places for the benefit of the general public within a period of one month under an intimation to the Commission”.
“The Government Medical College Jammu and Associated Hospitals being a public authority are under statutory obligation to comply with the mandate of Section 4 of the J&K Right to Information Act, 2009”, the Commission said, adding “all the records that are appropriate to be computerized shall be computerized and connected through a network all over the State on different systems so that access to such records including essential medicines and life saving drugs etc is facilitated’.
