Attempt to attack former DyCM

JAMMU, Oct 6: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, OBC Department/ Cell Chairman, Madan Lal Chalotra has expressed serious concern over the attempt to attack former Dy Chief Minister and working president of J&K Pradesh Congress Committee, Tara Chand at his residence at Chak Malal in Khour Tehsil on the late evening on October Ist.
Talking to media-persons after an urgent meeting of the OBC department members here today Chalotra strongly condemned the incident and alleged that JKUT administration has failed to take cognizance of the matter till today. He said even the JKUT election authorities have to take cognizance of the matter as yet.
Chalotra said several district heads of the OBC department joined the meeting through online mode. They all took serious note of the incident which took place in Khour after conclusion of the polling on October Ist. Some armed men came to the residence of former DyCM and Congress candidate and tried to take him out but with the timely intervention of family members and a PSO, the unknown men were made to flee. The registration number of the vehicle used in the incident was also shared with the Khour police.
The speakers during the meeting demanded strict and prompt action in this regard. They said the armed men tried to physically harm the Congress candidate from Chhamb, Tara Chand, on behest of some opponents. The police was not taking any action and trying to protect the criminals involved in this act. They also raised fingers on the J&K police chief for not providing adequate security to the former Dy Chief Minister and former J&K Assembly Speaker.
State general secretary Darshan Mehra, Amit Mehra -provincial general secretary, Rakesh Verma from OBC department, Bodh Raj Vice Chairman OBC department, Jagdish Kashyap Joint Coordinator strongly demanded immediate arrest of the accused involved in the incident.
They said the incident raises broader concern over the prevailing land and order situation in the J&K. If the person of the stature of former J&K Speaker Legislative Assembly and former DyCM is not safe, then what can be the fate of a common man in J&K, they asserted.
