Two arrested for killing security guard over sand quarrying issue

JAMMU, Apr 24: Police today arrested two accused for killing security guard of a private construction company near fourth bridge on river Tawi in Belicharan area, falling under the jurisdiction of Satwari police station.
As per police sources, 58-year-old security guard of GVR Construction Company identified as Pritam Singh, son of Rattan Singh, a resident of Gole Gujral was attacked by two persons with sharp edged weapon over sand quarrying issue near fourth bridge on river Tawi in Belicharan area of Satwari during the intervening night of April 15 and 16. The victim died on the spot and the accused escaped from the spot taking benefit of darkness.
On getting information, police rushed to the spot and shifted the body bearing multiple injuries on head and other parts to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where after conducting postmortem the body was handed over to family members for last rites.
A case under FIR number 76/14 under Section 302 RPC was registered at Satwari police station and investigation started.
During the course of investigation, police got some initial lead from the tyre prints of a tractor trolley, which were lifted from the scene. Some of the suspected persons were picked up for questioning and two persons broke down and accepted the crime.
The accused have been identified as Harjeet Singh, son of Baldev Singh, a resident of Trehat, district Rajouri, presently residing at Muthi and Arjun Singh, son of Dhunda Singh of Makwal.
The accused disclosed that the deceased while discharging his official duties restricted them from quarrying sand from the Tawi river bed and in a fit of rage they attacked the victim with shovel (belcha) and escaped from the spot with tractor trolley.
The weapon used in committing the crime and the tractor trolley were also recovered on the disclosure of the accused.
Further investigation into the case is going on.
The arrest was made by police team from Satwari police station headed by SHO Surinder Singh under the supervision of SDPO Gandhi Nagar Harjeet Singh, SP City (South) Rahul Malik and SSP Jammu Atul Goel.
