Addressing media persons at DPL Jammu, SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh said that in one of the cases, the family of one Sandeep Singh of Chassana, Reasi, who was currently residing at Khilone Wali Gali, Jammu, lodged a missing report at Police Post Chowk Chabutra on September 29, 2024, after their son didn’t return home.
He said that during the course of the investigation, a team from Pacca Danga Police Station, led by SHO Inspector Rakesh Singh and supervised by SDPO North and SP North, Jammu, discovered that Sandeep had paid Rs 1,30,000 to one Pardeep Singh of Prem Nagar, Jammu, who had invested this money in the Aviator gaming app.
“Both Sandeep and Pardeep had known each other for a long time,” he said.
He stated that when Pardeep was asked to repay the amount he had borrowed from Sandeep Singh, he (Pardeep) hatched a criminal conspiracy to kill him (Sandeep).
Accordingly, SSP Jammu said that the accused lured Sandeep to Reasi under the pretense of repaying Rs 1, 30, 000 on September 27, 2024, and pushed him into the Chenab River, resulting in his death.
As the police investigation progressed, Sandeep’s body was recovered from the river on October 4, 2024. It was handed over to the legal heirs of the deceased after the completion of legal formalities, added the SSP Jammu.
Later, during the interrogation of the accused, another individual, identified as Rajinder Singh, who had taken a loan of Rs 25,000 from the deceased, was arrested from Srinagar.
SSP Jammu said a case (FIR number 117/2024) under sections 140/49/103 BNS has been registered at Police Station Pacca Danga, and further investigation is underway.
In another case, the SSP Jammu said that on October 4, 2024, Police Station RS Pura received information from reliable sources regarding the recovery of the body of an unidentified woman from fields at Badyal Brahamana, tehsil RS Pura, district Jammu.
Following this, a case (FIR number 216/2024) under section 103 BNS was registered at Police Station RS Pura, and an investigation was launched.
During the investigation, the SSP Jammu said that a special team from Police Station RS Pura, led by SHO Inspector Naveen Angral, under the supervision of SDPO RS Pura, Nikhil Gogna, and overall supervision of SP South, Ajay Sharma, learned that the woman, Neha, originally from Sonipat, Haryana, had been living in the Badyal Brahamana area for the past three months with her second husband, Parkash Paswan alias Santosh of Fulwari, Purnia, Bihar, who had gone missing after the incident.
Upon further investigation, the police traced the woman’s husband to Khanauri, District Sangrur, Punjab. He was arrested and subjected to questioning, said the police officer.
SSP Jammu stated that the accused told the police that on October 3, 2024, an altercation broke out between him, his wife Neha, and the owner of their current house, Parveen, over some issue.
Following this, the husband-wife duo left Parveen’s house and moved toward the abandoned cattle shed of one Ramesh Chander of Badyal Brahamana, said the police officer.
There, he said, the accused, Parkash Paswan, killed his wife by first hitting her with a brick and later strangling her with her stole.
After committing the crime, the accused allegedly threw the body in the paddy fields at Badyal Brahamana and fled the scene, said the police officer.
Further investigation into the case is ongoing, added the officer.
Meanwhile, SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh, praised the people of Jammu District for their cooperation in ensuring the smooth conduct of elections and expected similar cooperation on the day of vote counting.
