BJP wins all SC seats, loses all those reserved for STs

* Gets 5 out of 6 new segments

JAMMU, Oct 8: The BJP for the second consecutive Assembly elections won all seven seats reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) but lost all six seats reserved for Scheduled Tribes (STs) in Jammu division indicating that 10 percent reservation given to Paharis and nine seats reserved by it for STs in the Legislative Assembly failed to give it any advantage in the elections.

It also bagged five out of six newly created seats in Jammu division after delimitation and all five seats having prominent shrines.
Of nine seats reserved for STs in the UT-six are in Jammu division and three in the Kashmir Valley while all seven SC reserved seats fall in Jammu.
The BJP won Akhnoor, Marh, Bishnah, Suchetgarh, Ramgarh, Kathua and Ramnagar seats reserved for SCs with comprehensive margins. Akhnoor seat was won by Mohan Lal Bhagat, a former SSP by around 24,000 votes defeating another retired JKAS officer Ashok Kumar of Congress while Rajeev Kumar won Bishnah seat defeating Neeraj Kundan of Congress by over 16,000 votes.
Surinder Kumar emerged victorious in Marh defeating former Minister and Congress leader Mula Ram by about 23,000 votes. Gharu Ram Bhagat won Suchetgarh for the BJP by about 11,000 votes defeating Bushan Lal of the Congress
Dr Bharat Bushan, a former JKAS officer, emerged victorious in Kathua defeating BSP’s Sandeep Majotra by around 12,000 votes.
Dr Devender Manyal, former Minister won Ramgarh seat in Samba district defeating Yashpal Kundal, also a former Minister of Congress, by about 14,000 votes.
BJP’s Sunil Bhardwaj emerged victorious in Ramnagar outclassing Ashri Devi of Panthers Party by over 8000 votes.
However, it was completely reverse for the BJP which lost all six ST Reserve seats in Jammu division including Rajouri, Thannamandi, Budhal, Mendhar, Poonch and Gulabgarh. Rajouri seat went to Congress while Thannamandi was won by an Independent. In rest all four seats, NC candidates emerged victorious.
The BJP Government at the Centre had, for the first time, reserved nine seats for STs in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.
It was also Narendra Modi Government which gave 10 percent reservation to Paharis in separate ST category.
Paharis have large population in Rajouri and Poonch districts where BJP bagged just one out of eight seats.
However, the BJP managed to win five out of six newly created seats in Jammu division including Paddar, Doda West, Udhampur East, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Ramgarh. It lost Thannamandi.
The BJP also won all five seats having prominent shrines including Katra (Shri Mata Vaishno Devi), Reasi (Shiv Khori), Paddar-Nagseni (Machail Mata), Billawar (Sukrala Mata) and Jasrota (Jasrota Wali Mata).
