UDHAMPUR, Oct 9: A three-day training program for Central Public Information Officers (CPIOs) began today at Sher-I-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA) Udhampur, aimed at enhancing transparency and strengthening the Right to Information (RTI) framework.
The event was inaugurated by Garib Dass, Director of SKPA, who served as the chief guest. In his address, Dass highlighted the critical role CPIOs play in promoting transparency and accountability in governance, stressing the importance of being well-versed in both the letter and spirit of the RTI Act to foster openness while protecting state interests.
The program, organized by SKPA Udhampur, seeks to equip CPIOs with the skills and knowledge necessary for effectively managing RTI requests in compliance with legal guidelines. Attendees include senior officials such as Rajinder Kumar Gupta (SSP, Deputy Director Indoor Trainings), Rajesh Bali (Deputy Director, Outdoor), and Chief Prosecuting Officer Rakesh Sambyal. The course is being coordinated by Raiz Ahmed, Senior Prosecuting Officer, with support from ASI Rajinder Singh.
The training covers key areas such as an overview of the RTI Act 2005, the efficient management of RTI requests, handling appeals and exemptions, and the balance between transparency and national security. It also addresses information disclosure, data protection, and best practices in public information management through case studies and group discussions.
The program features expert speakers from the legal, administrative, and public information sectors who will engage participants in interactive sessions. This initiative aims to ensure CPIOs are well-prepared to meet public information demands while upholding the integrity of public service.
