JAMMU, Oct 12: The condition of road from Janipur High Court Chowk up to Bantalab and Kot Bhalwal has worsened, causing lot of inconvenience to the road users.
The road surface has broken at many places and large potholes have developed all over, giving rise to unwanted road accidents. Two wheeler riders are much prone to such road accidents as while abruptly avoiding such potholes, they are often hit by the other vehicles from back side moving on the road.
While no road repair was witnessed for the last over one year on the City roads, but this road has been mostly neglected by the concerned agency-PWD. The condition of Bantalab Barnai road is also not good. During previous rainy season the road condition has much worsened. Before rainy season some potholes were filled with the cement mixed sand by the agency but it got removed within a couple of days. A large pothole at Disco Road for the last 4-5 months could not be noticed by the agency officials and the several VIPs including the Lt Governor, High Court Judges while using this road. It has caused lot of accidents.
The broken road near Jaggi Darbar-Paloura Chowk, Roopnagar Naka, Bantalab and ahead up to Kot Bhalwal Sub District Hospital is causing lot of inconvenience to the road users. While the concerned officials claim that they could not repair the City and other roads due to Code of Conduct during the previous Lok Sabha elections and then in view of Assembly elections but it is also fact that the maintenance work could not be initiated as the Finance department did not release timely funds for the urgent repair and maintenance of the roads immediately after Lok Sabha polls.
Chief Engineer, R&B Jammu, Rajesh Gupta when contacted said that he was well aware of the condition of City and other roads. He said due to enforcement of Code of Conduct, the main- tenance work was delayed. Gupta said the funds have been released by the Government and the tender process has been set in motion. The works will be started shortly, the Chief Engineer claimed.
