Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav have been appointed as Central Observers for the election of the Legislature Party leader in Haryana.
This was stated by party national general secretary Arun Singh in a statement issued here today.
Meanwhile, BJP is organising a meeting of its J&K Legislature Party at the party Headquarters, Trikuta Nagar, here tomorrow. The party sources said the meeting will be informal which has been convened by BJP JK UT president, Ravinder Raina to felicitate the newly elected party MLAs and introduce them with the office bearers and senior leaders.
The meeting will be attended by all 29 MLAs appointed from Jammu region. The party working president, Sat Sharma, BJP general secretary (Org), Ashok Koul, MPs Jugal Kishore Sharma and Gulam Ali Khatana, former Deputy CMs, Dr Nirmal Singh, Kavinder Gupta and BJP chief spokesperson, Sunil Sethi will attend the meeting among others.
Sources said besides, introducing the new MLAs with party leaders, all the newly elected MLAs will be felicitated by the party leadership on the occasion and the strategy to be adopted by the party as the main opposition in the Assembly will also be devised in the meeting.
Sources said the name of Legislature Party leader will be announced in another meeting to be convened by the newly appointed Observers within this or next week and tomorrow’s meeting has nothing to do with the appointment of Legislative Party leader.
Sources said the party will also review its performance in recently held Assembly poll in the UT. The party which is satisfied with its performance in the Jammu region will also review the cause of its unsatisfactory performance in Pir Panjal region where party secured only one seat out of eight Assembly seats despite giving ST status to Pahari speaking areas in the twin districts.
The party is, however, contented with the vote percentage it got in the UT which is more than National Conference (NC) which emerged as single largest party in the UT by securing 42 seats in comparison to 29 of BJP, sources said. The party feels that BJP performed far better in J&K by making inroads in Kashmir valley also in comparison to Congress which has fought elections in J&K since sixties and which ruled the erstwhile State for decades also, sources added.
It may be recalled that the National Conference has emerged as the single largest party in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls with 42 seats and has a comfortable majority in the 95-member House as its alliance partners Congress and CPI(M) have won six seats and one seat respectively.
The BJP bagged an all-time high of 29 seats in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also opened its account in Jammu and Kashmir, winning from the Doda Assembly constituency. The PDP of Mehbooba Mufti had to remain contended with three seats while People’s Conference (PC) of Sajad Gani Lone and AIP of Engineer Rashid got one seat each from North Kashmir.
In Haryana where Union Home Minister, Amit Shah and MP Chief Minister, Mohan Yadav have been appointed as party Observers, the BJP has secured a third term in the Assembly polls, results of which were declared on October 8. It won 48 seats against the Congress’ 37 in the 90-member Assembly in the State.
