Protesting PHE daily wagers urge upcoming CM to prioritize their regularization

JAMMU, Oct 14: The Jal Shakti (PHE) Department daily wagers staged a massive protest-dharna outside the office of Chief Engineer PHE/Jal Shakti Department at BC Road office complex, here today and appealed the upcoming chief minister of J&K Omar Abdullah and newly elected MLAs to regularize their services on priority.

The protesting daily wagers and casual workers raised slogans in support of their demands of regularization and release of their long pending wages. They alleged that the PHE authorities failed to release their pending wages. They said despite assurances by the LG’s administration, their regularization is still awaited.
Talking to media persons, protesting workers and their leaders said that they are on strike since June 22, 2022, demanding release of their pending wages and regularization of their services. He said despite several rounds of talks with higher authorities in the Department, their issues could not be resolved. Moreover, assurance by Lt Governor did not yield results.
The employees’ representatives said these helpless workers are demanding regularization, enhancement of minimum wages as per Central Government norms in J&K UT and release of pending wages. They said their families are facing starvation due to non-payment of their wages. They are unable to pay the school fee of their children.
“Despite long protest-dharnas, the LG Administration and the BJP leadership have been ignoring the burning issues of the daily wagers. Even the assurance by the LG has failed to resolve the long pending issues of the PHE daily wagers,” they said and appealed all the newly elected 90 MLAs to unite on this common issue of daily wagers and got them regularized.
They also appealed CM designate Omar Abdullah to do justice with daily wagers of Jal Shakti Department by regularizing their services and releasing their pending wages.
